Just One Look: Post 7

9/16/2012

Hi,
This is my seventh post from Just One Look, a novella sequel still being written. Drew is at the church where his sister's wedding is being held, watching the guests and the wedding party arrive. Michael's (groom's) older sister, the one he met the night before, has caught his attention, but his impression of Mia this time is ... well, I'll let the Six speak for themselves. This follows last week's post, so if you missed it, you can check it out below. Here are today's Six:

He remembered watching one of the old Godfather movies and ridiculing how, based on a single look, the youngest Corleone son had fallen in lust—maybe even in love—with an Italian girl.
His rational self argued it was crazy, beyond insane.
Still, he watched as Mia Alvarez totally disregarded formality, hair, clothes, and hugged the flower girl. No cold fingers, businessman's grip or primness about her.
It felt like getting shot in the gut again.

Howdy again. Yay for an early start. I love the hook you ended this snippet on. The reader is getting a real sense of Drew's personality and then you give us a zinger: "It felt like getting shot in the gut again."

I mean, really! I was lke all "Wait! What!?! He's been shot before?!?" ;) What a terrific way to introduce some backstory and keep the reader bouncing in her chair to find out the details. Terrific six this week!

I love this story more each week! You better be writing FAST, because I'm really looking forward to reading it. I love Drew. I love his snarky attitude, and his attempts to suppress that side of him. He's awesome. :)

I love this look at each of them. I'm amazed you were able to share so much in just six sentences!

Great Six. I love the comparison to the movie "The Godfather", his skepticism, and his falling so hard. Nicely done!

Yep, he's gone. Fabulous comparison with his previous ridicule of "The Godfather" love story. Now, how to make her feel the same way about Drew?

Yep, I really like this guy. I like his appreciation for those qualities in a woman and his ability to laugh at his previous prejudices. Another great six!

I've always been fond of love at first sight stories, especially when the characters don't particularity like it. I enjoy your incorporation of the Godfather. Nice job!
