Many thanks to everyone who's visited my Six Sentence Sunday posts, and welcome to those who've landed here for the first time.
I thought I'd share a bit more from my first book, To the Limit. My hero, Nick, is a diplomat (from a fictional Latin American country) and my heroine, Mary Beth, is a librarian who's traveled to said country, determined to ransom her brother from kidnappers. To do so, she needs Nick's help. Here's a bit of their exchange in his office. She's not prepared for his polite refusal, but she won't give up. When he asks where she's supposed to take the ransom, Mary Beth names the location:
"To Los Desamparados, in the Upper Rio Hermoso valley."
Each tick of the large clock on the low bookcase to one side weighed heavily in the subtly lit room. She wished she could climb inside his mind, see what he was thinking.
"Do you know what desamparados means?" he asked finally.
"That has nothing—"
Be sure to check out other Six Sunday participants at Six Sunday for some great very short reads.
